About the Role
Trustway Proteccio™ is a hardware security module (HSM) designed to generate, store, and protect cryptographic keys, as well as to perform sensitive cryptographic operations. Its hardware component meets the strictest security standards, with Common Criteria EAL4+ and ANSSI QR (Enhanced Qualification) certifications. It is based on a hardened, minimalist, and immutable GNU/Linux operating system.

Following a defense-in-depth strategy, we propose redeveloping the local administration application using Rust. The study will be conducted on the Trustway Proteccio™ operating system, which can be updated via the Buildroot tool.

Key Responsibilities:

• Learn how to use Buildroot
• Study the existing application (manipulation, source code analysis)
• Take control of the integration and validation environment to perform non-regression tests
• Conduct a security audit and penetration tests on the solution
• Write the technical documentation for the developments carried out
• Develop a Rust best practices repository adapted to Proteccio
• Share the knowledge acquired with the team

Additional work on configuring or hardening Bash and BusyBox may be offered at the end of the internship.

Profile sought:
The ideal candidate will have a background in systems programming, cybersecurity, and information systems defense, with a strong foundation in cryptography. An interest in embedded technologies and digital electronics will be valued for the remainder of the internship. A keen interest in security technologies and the challenges related to quantum computing will be a significant asset.
