Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking a Software Development Engineer (SDE) with strong C++ and/Rust experience to work on critical Device Components and Tier-1 cloud services, specifically focusing on Over-the-Air updates and device-cloud communication systems.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in C++ and/or Rust programming
- Experience with embedded systems development
- Understanding of memory management and performance optimization
- Ability to write efficient, secure, and maintainable systems-level code
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain performance-critical device components using C++ and Rust
- Design and implement secure Over-the-Air update systems
- Optimize bidirectional device-cloud communication protocols
- Write high-performance code with strict attention to memory safety and efficiency
A day in the life
As an SDE on the Cloud Connectivity and Management Services Team, you'll primarily work with C++ and Rust on device components and OTA update systems. Daily activities include collaborating with Kindle, Fire, Fire TV, and Alexa teams while writing and optimizing performance-critical code. You'll focus on device-cloud communication, debugging embedded systems, and ensuring secure update delivery to millions of devices. The role involves regular interaction with AWS infrastructure teams and requires deep technical expertise in memory optimization and secure communications. Success means maintaining high update reliability while minimizing device disruption, directly impacting millions of Amazon device users worldwide.
About the team
The Cloud Connectivity and Management Services Team (C2MS) owns the Cloud Services and Device components used to support critical use cases like Persistent connectivity to all Amazon Devices, Over-the-Air software updates, bidirectional communication between Amazon Devices and the Amazon Cloud.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Experience in embedded wireless systems
- Experience in embedded development in C/C++
