Job Description
About BWI GmbH
As the German Armed Forces' primary digitalization partner, we provide stable, secure, and efficient IT services both domestically and internationally, from basic operations to operational deployments, thereby contributing to the continuous improvement of the German Armed Forces' command and control capabilities. With over 7,700 colleagues, we operate and modernize one of the largest and most complex IT infrastructures in Germany. We are looking for responsible IT specialists who are passionate about further developing the German Armed Forces' IT infrastructure through challenging digitalization projects and thus contributing to Germany's security.
Want to contribute to one of the most important open-source solutions for public administration? With us, you'll help shape the BundesMessenger – a secure communication platform for all of Germany. Join us and develop a product that truly makes a difference. In our agile, interdisciplinary teams, everyone works hand in hand: from UX and frontend to backend, DevOps, and testing. If you're passionate about building innovative software and want to actively shape Germany's digital sovereignty, then you're exactly the right fit for our team!
Key Responsibilities:
- You will work on the multi-platform client SDK as well as on existing and new backend components for scalable and (ideally) error-free E2EE messaging.
- You actively contribute to the future direction by providing your own feature and architecture suggestions and distinguish yourself through proactive collaboration and communication.
- You understand the challenges of transitioning from other programming languages to the specifics of Rust and can support colleagues in understanding and porting.
- You have an end-to-end understanding of everything from linting and automated testing to optimized compilation and container building of Rust artifacts in CI/CD systems, and you can maintain and improve them.
- Good documentation, unit and integration tests are a matter of course for you, and you don't shy away from complex smoke and load tests either.
Requirements:
- You can provide proof of a completed degree or comparable training in the IT field.
- You have at least 4 years of experience in professional software development and enjoy working in agile development teams.
- You have very good knowledge and experience with Rust and know how to consciously use the advantages of this language.
- You have a strong understanding of typical security risks (e.g., OWASP) and know how to avoid them.
- You have experience in developing high-performance web services and APIs and are familiar with cryptographic methods for encryption in this environment.
- You have experience with automated testing, generating and releasing production-ready Rust artifacts in at least one CI/CD framework.
- Knowledge and understanding of developing client SDKs and multi-platform frameworks such as uniffi-rs or Tauri is a plus (client SDK).
- Knowledge and understanding of Kubernetes-based application architectures is a plus (backend).
- You are a creative and flexible person, have intrinsic motivation to pursue your own ideas, and are characterized by a "hands-on" mentality.
- You are fluent in German, both spoken and written, and have very good English skills.
We Offer
- Through diverse and socially relevant tasks, we ensure the smooth operation of IT and the digitalization of the German Armed Forces.
- We offer you flexibility to balance work and private life, for example through mobile working or trust-based working hours and the long-term accumulation of a time credit account for, e.g., a sabbatical.
- BWI offers competitive compensation, a secure job, and a bonus-based, employer-funded company pension scheme.
- You start with 30 days of annual leave, with the option of individual adjustments.
- Our benefits app gives you access to a monthly credit and tax breaks on public transport tickets.
