Job Description
About Atos Group
The Atos Group is a global leader in digital transformation, employing around 70,000 people and generating annual revenue of approximately €10 billion. It operates in 67 countries under two brands: Atos for services and Eviden for products. The European leader in cybersecurity, cloud computing, and high-performance computing, the Atos Group is committed to a secure and decarbonized future and provides tailored, AI-powered solutions for all industries. Atos is a European company (Societas Europaea) listed on Euronext Paris.
Atos' mission is to help shape the future of the information space. Its expertise and services support the development of knowledge, education, and research within a multicultural approach and contribute to the advancement of scientific and technological excellence. Worldwide, the Group enables its clients, employees, and members of society as a whole to live, work, and thrive sustainably in a safe and secure information space.
Within Eviden's R&D department , the SEED (Software for Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization) team designs software solutions for measuring and reducing the carbon footprint of digital technology.
Its expertise is centered around four pillars: Distributed systems (HPC, Edge Computing), Carbon measurement, Artificial intelligence, and Microservices. We are working in collaboration with the Datamove team at LIG on the ALUMET project: Adaptive, Lightweight, Unified Metrics.
Alumet's objective is to unify the collection of software and hardware metrics, particularly energy consumption, with a high acquisition frequency and minimal overhead. Such a tool can be used in numerous applications: HPC monitoring, CO2 emissions assessment of work processes, energy efficiency evaluation of artificial intelligence models, and more.
Alumet is designed to be extensible using a plugin-based architecture. The tool is developed in Rust. In this context, we are looking for an intern motivated by climate issues to develop an Alumet plugin to collect metrics from ARM CPUs via the SCMI protocol. The SCMI (System Control and Management Interface) specification describes a set of standard interfaces for power, performance, and system management. The goal of this internship is to develop an Alumet plugin to collect metrics from ARM CPUs via SCMI.
Key Responsibilities:
- Getting started with the Alumet pipeline and the concept of plugins.
- Analysis of the SCMI protocol and definition of the plugin architecture.
- Plugin development and unit testing. Integration and validation on the SEED team's internal platform.
- The development framework will comply with scientific and technical quality requirements: bibliography, details of working hypotheses and approximations, unit tests, code documentation and continuous integration.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Computer Science. Strong programming skills (knowledge of Rust is a plus). Experience with unit testing and continuous integration.
- Affinity for sustainable development issues. Excellent communication/documentation skills and a desire to work in a team within a dynamic environment (Scrum/Agile methodology).
- Analytical, creative, and enjoys solving problems.
