Job Description
About Sentz
Sentz is building the future of digital payments — a cryptocurrency platform designed for everyday use, anywhere in the world. We are passionate about applying rigorous scientific and mathematical methods to solve complex problems in global financial markets, all while preserving user privacy at every layer. We believe that career fulfillment and enterprise success converge when smart, hard-working, and intellectually curious people unite around a shared goal of innovation and excellence. At Sentz, you will work alongside individuals with proven experience building some of the most innovative blockchain and privacy-preserving technologies in the world, and you will have the opportunity to deliver immediate, measurable, and long-lasting impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services in both Rust and Kotlin — with an approximately equal split between the two languages — supporting a privacy-preserving cryptocurrency platform.
- Integrate with internal and third-party platforms using JSON-RPC and gRPC to provide seamless product experiences composed using capabilities from a wide range of SaaS domains, including fintech, blockchain, AI, telephony, analytics, and social media.
- Extend and update existing distributed systems that integrate with Trusted Execution Environments (TEE), including Intel SGX enclaves, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality at scale.
- Leverage AI-assisted tooling to accelerate development workflows, including generating and maintaining test suites, unit test frameworks, proof-of-concept frontends, and external system testing harnesses.
- Use AI-driven approaches to support debugging, root cause analysis, and performance optimization across backend services.
- Build and maintain robust observability infrastructure using Grafana, Prometheus, and Logit to ensure system health, performance visibility, and rapid incident response.
- Develop and maintain integrations for log aggregation, search, and analytics across distributed services.
- Collaborate asynchronously with a remote-first team by producing technical design documents in Notion — including clear notes and instructions for teammates to follow — and communicating effectively via Slack to enable asynchronous co-development.
- Develop and optimize data pipelines and tooling for oblivious and privacy-preserving data processing.
- Contribute to the team's infrastructure and deployment pipelines, including cloud orchestration with Kubernetes and related technologies.
- Produce well-documented, maintainable code and communicate effectively on complex technical subjects across the organization.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of industry experience in backend software and systems engineering.
- Deep proficiency in Rust or Kotlin as a primary backend development language, with the willingness and ability to become productive in the other.
- Experience designing and deploying large-scale, high-availability distributed systems in a previous role — for example, building toward systems supporting millions of users or high transaction throughput.
- Demonstrated personal curiosity and initiative in adopting AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, LLM-based assistants) for building test suites, debugging, and rapid prototyping, with a commitment to continuing to develop these skills on the job.
- Strong observability mindset with hands-on experience using tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, and Logit for monitoring, alerting, and system health management.
- Ability to work fully remotely with a high degree of self-motivation, ownership, and accountability.
- Strong asynchronous communication skills, including the ability to produce technical design documents and clear, well-organized notes and instructions in Notion for teammates, and proficiency using Slack to support asynchronous co-development across a distributed team.
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field, or equivalent practical experience gained through industry work and/or significant open-source contributions.
- Highly Preferred: Experience authoring or porting cryptographically-sensitive code, and familiarity with the foundations of cryptography and privacy-preserving system design. When comparing otherwise equally strong candidates, demonstrated depth in these areas carries substantial weight in the evaluation.
- Highly Preferred: Strong understanding of secure computing concepts and Trusted Execution Environments (TEE); hands-on experience extending or updating Intel SGX enclave-based systems or equivalent secure hardware technologies.
- Preferred: Experience building systems at scale using established open-source and commercial infrastructure platforms (e.g., Elasticsearch, Kafka, Bigtable, Pub/Sub, ClickHouse), and knowing when to adopt existing solutions versus designing bespoke systems.
- Preferred: Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.
- Preferred: Experience building low-latency, high-throughput backend systems.
